Practice sessions for the School Athletics team are being arranged and congratulations to Luke and Kaan in year 5 who have been added to the Squad.

Physical Education in both the Primary and Secondary schools has seen Mr Roberts return for a second year to teach personal fitness, team sports and general well being to the pupils. With the juniors, he has introduced a series of fun yet semi competitive races, involving running, catching and throwing with balls, relays and team sports, namely hockey, football, cricket and basketball. Jerry Roberts - Sunny Lane School PEHis main message is to explain the importance of taking part, not always to win, fair play and most of all, for the children to do their best, regardless of fitness levels and ability. To date, he can report that the children love their P.E. and he takes great pride in seeing every pupil, from Foundation to Year 6,improve in both understanding and progress. November 2009 saw the Secondary students involved in a Fitness Test, designed by Mr Roberts to show strength, speed, endurance and flexibility. Exercises included a short sprint, a long run, step ups, sit ups, squats and a three tier shuttle run. Results varied of course, but overall, the effort and determination of the majority of students produced an above average Grade. Five pupils achieved Grade A, and a special mention goes to Rob Grey and Laura Bailey for winning the Schools fittest boy and girl category. This test will be done again in March. Aside from the above, all Years take part in weekly warm up races, hockey, cricket, tennis, basketball and football.
